Families are the shared workspace inside Familiar.

Admins manage invites, roles, and most family settings.

A clean membership list makes every other feature easier to trust.

Section 01

Creating your family workspace

Each family in Familiar is a shared operational space. Chores, shopping items, notes, analytics, and member roles all live inside that family. Choose the family name carefully so people always know they are working in the right place.

  • Create one family per real household or operating unit.
  • Use a clear name everyone recognizes immediately.
  • Add a short description if your family needs context, such as a campus flat, shared home, or extended household.

Section 02

Inviting new members

You can invite people using Familiar invite flows rather than manually sharing your own login.

  1. 1Open the family area from the dashboard.
  2. 2Choose an invite option and send the link to the person who should join.
  3. 3Ask them to complete sign-up or sign-in using their own account.
  4. 4Confirm that they appear in the family list after joining.

Best practice

Invite links work best when the recipient opens them on the device where they plan to finish sign-up. That reduces missed handoffs between browsers.

Section 03

Admin vs member roles

Think of admin access as operational control rather than status. Give it to the people who will actually maintain the space.

  • Admins manage invites, settings, and approval-heavy workflows.
  • Members participate in chores, shopping, and notes without controlling family-level setup.
  • Not every adult must be an admin, but at least two reliable adults usually makes administration easier.

Section 04

Keeping the family list accurate

A clean family list improves trust in notifications, activity history, and ownership across the rest of the app.

  • Remove people who should no longer see household information.
  • Demote admin access when it is no longer needed.
  • Review membership whenever household responsibilities change significantly.
